| HOW TO GET A NICKNAME: |
| by Chris Lane So, you want a nickname? You've heard all the best like Ratboy, Barney, and Rodent and now you want to be branded for life also. Let's walk into the reality of where an alias comes from and how it can possibly affect you. First of all, you usually get one from the way you look or act, or something that rhymes with your given name- (Ex.- Wild Turk, Frog, Camelback, Alf). It might have to do with something you've done: bare-back boy, crap face, or possibly even whackman. Don't worry, you'll eventually receive a nickname when you least expect it. Usually the one that sticks will be the one you hate the most. Rule#1-whatever you do put on an expressionless face and try not to react to your potential alias for life! If you get angry and scream, "don't call me that," you're feeding the fire. People love to call other people names they dislike. Sometimes if you lead an existence that involves actions that are harmful to others or society, you'll be stuck with a derogatory title that will forever haunt you. (Ex.-Five fingers, Goon boy, stealy bagela.) To minimize this happening, live an honest positive lifestyle that includes being a humble, compassionate person. Treat others with respect and you will surely earn respect from others. This will lessen the chance of getting a bad one, but sometimes it doesn't matter how good of a person you are. One of your friends could look at you from a certain angle and say," hey, from this angle you look like a misshapen pumpkin head!" That could turn into pumpy, pump boy, or even pumpkin sack. You might even try to make one up for yourself and introduce it to friends. "Guess what so and so is calling me now!" After you introduce the name of your choice, act like you dislike it and you might succeed in labeling yourself. Whatever way you go about it, or no matter what your nickname ends up being, try not to take it too personally and have a good laugh at the comedy! |
