Snow has come to the Sierra in record amounts for the month of February. 2-5 feet of fresh fell on Sunday and the upper mountain had been closed and so it was all fresh for Monday. A beautiful blue sky and over a thousand acres of fresh awaiting, it does not get much better. It was one of those days were they opened KT22 at 8:30 and all of the other lifts opened though the day. The powder hounds had to hurry up and then wait in the morning as Broken Arrow(hike), Granite, Emigrant, and Headwall took a little bit to get spinning, but rewarded those who waited with a least one run of soft deep untracked powder. Then Siberia opened and all of the peaks (Palisades, Mainline, and Granite Peak) were available for those willing to hike them. I heard someone hucked the 100 foot plus buttress on Granite Peak and nailed the landing. Hope to see that shot in Scott Gaffney's next year's movie . We heard on our radio that Silverado was opening, but when we got there the lift operators at the top said - not today -. I noticed that they had the trash can out indicating a likely opening and so did not take their word. Sure enough Silverado opened giving the lagers and those with energy left over some afternoon delight. I overheard plenty of moaning about how this lift or that area was not open; no one was complaining when they scored fresh tracks in the morning, mid-morning, and afternoon.
