This year's Spring Jam consisted of six different events over the course of the weekend: Boardercross, Kahlua Halfpipe Jam, the Cushing Classic Pond Crossing, Skiercross, and the Southwest BIG AIR (board and ski). Over 200 athletes showed up to compete for over 10,000 in cash and prizes.
The weather was marginal on Saturday with a spring mix of sun, snow, wind, and rain. Snow and fog set in forcing the Halfpipe Jam to be canceled halfway through. The lake crossing also had mix of weather but the show went on with 40 hearty souls ready to risk the 35 degree murky waters. 16 year old Scott Whitlake scored two perfect 50.s from the judges to take home the top prize (mid-week pass). The attempt on a golf cart was disapointing but LP gave everybody a good show on his ice chest with skis attached. Hey, LP, Did you mean to do that mogul style turn off those rocks?! Check out the lake crossing photo gallery. Day two, Easter Sunday, had skiercross in the morning and the Southwest BIG AIR in the afternoon under cool and clear skies. The jump was pretty large and had a very nice long steep landing. These guys and 2 gals were going off but had some tough landings when they came up short or off balance further down the transition. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. You can check out all the photos in the Spring Jam 3 Photo gallery.
