Snow Sports Action from the Mountain to Your Computer

Well, this is the first edition of Tahoe 2000. This fall has had a slower start than the last few seasons. At least we have received a few coatings of snow so we could get out there and get you these shots. Snowbaording Image at Sugar Bowl

November 22nd - Northstar opened Saturday with discounted tickets - $29. Sugar Bowl opened Jerome Hill lift on Sunday November 21st with early season $30 tickets. Boreal is open to the top this weekend. Heavenly is opening more lifts this week.
November 18th - Early season fun in the warm sun at Heavenly.

Heavenly was nice enough to set up a little jump and a bench to jib. The jump had a hard packed flat landing - ouch; but the bench provided some good early season fun.

November 8th - Well, a few inches of snow fell on the peaks.

We got a little dusting on the peaks back early in October and then a little more on the Peaks again on October 28th (pictured above). The resorts are trying to make snow but the day time temperatures have been in the 60's and even 70's that melts most of what they make. Consequently there are no sure opening dates yet!

November 17th - Tahoe received another 6-8 inches of snow last night. The temperatures are forecast to be much colder than it has been lately.
November 11th
Boreal, Heavenly, and Mammoth Mountain were the 1st Tahoe Resorts to Open for the 99/2K Season. Boreal has 6-12 inches of man-made snow with a touch of natural left over from the November 8th snow. Early season tickets are $20.
Heavenly has 6-24 inches with tickets costing $15. They are limiting ticket sales because only one run is open so get there early.

Heavenly did not publicize their opening, but they did open at 7:45am to be technically the 1st California resort to open for the 3rd year in a row. Boreal did a good marketing job telling the world of their planned opening and were open for more hours for the 1st day of the season. BOARDZ.COM calls it a tie. When I asked the Boreal marketing people about the sudden Heavenly opening, their official statement was - No comment! - . The early season conditions means there are unmarked obstacles (rocks) sticking out and hiding under a little snow all over the place. Please be carefull! We recommend that you use a rock board (old beat up board) and to wait for more snow if you only have a brand new board.
