Snow Sports Action from the Mountain to Your Computer

Wednesday, May 26th 1999
Well, this is the last edition of SquawOne for this season. Wow - what a season 98/99 was! There was a flurry of early season powder days and then the weather turned typical Tahoe with sunny skies for the holidays. The powder heaven started again around mid-January. The sun and the powder gods took turns all the way through mid-March when the sun started to peak out on more days than the powder was flying. Snowboarding Image

Whenever the sun was shining there was a regular flow of talented riders at the tables and the pipes. There were a few variable condition pow days and a few really good pow pow days in April. There was even enough snow up on the Palisades to open the Chimney. The powers that be have steered the snow giving clouds away for most of May as spring has rolled easily into some warm early summer weather.

True Love
Those still interested in winter sports have to get up early to get the best conditions. In fact you better get on it this weekend, because winter sports operations shut down on Tuesday June 1st (Monday is the last day of season). Don't forget that you will have one last chance to ride Squaw on this season's snow on the 4th of July weekend.
FYI: Squaw Valley is on spring schedule. There are discounted tickets and limited lift operations that run from 8am to 3pm. The pool and hot tube will be popular late in the day after spring halfpipe (Belmont) riding, sessioning Granite and Shirley, or hiking out to acres of fresh sun baked corn snow.
I can't say this enough - This is the best time of year to enjoy the uncrowded slopes of Squaw Valley and get to ride while wearing minimal amounts of clothing. The sun is super strong this time of year, so please feel free to wear lots of sunscreen.
