Lord of the Boards Alpine Meadows Event

There were so many snowboard entrants that the had to use all of the 1st day to narrow the field and finally run the finals. The morning started with mostly sunny skies and cool temperatures which made for icy conditions for the practice rounds. Several people were glad they were wearing their helmets after some pretty brutal falls; they were not glad the the snow was so hard. The conditions did soften up some in the early afternoon for the men's time trials and the first round of the women's boarder-cross. The sun sets early in winter afternoons in the mountains, the temperature drops, and the snow starts to setup. The snow was back to brutal again as the show down between Chris Roach and John Parsy who booth had dominated all day. Lee Coates dominated the women's division this day and did not let the late afternoon conditions or her fellow competitors slow her down on her way to victory. The men's final was pretty tight but John Parsy lead wire to wire as he had all day long. Chris Roach and the field were pretty close behind Parsy, but he (Parsy) had enough of a lead to throw in a crowd pleasing bs720 on the last hit for the win.

John Parsy with bs 360 to win the first semifinal heat (sorry about the pic but the light was gone)

The next day was for the telemarkers and skiers and it was a snowy one. The course was covered with powder except for right in the track were the ice of the previous base was exposed. Ice is fast. Fresh powder snow is slow. These conditions made the hole shot so very important. The skiers that had the most chinese-downhill training made it to the front of the pack at the top and tried to stay in the track usually made it through to the next round and on to victory. The telemarkers had some troubles with the tables and the triple jump like the snowboarders. Those obstacles were not much trouble for the skiers but the burms in combination with bad visibility threw an unlucky few of them for a wild ride. We had to take off before they crowned this days winners but we will try to get more results as soon as we can.
